HAPPINESS: A Brief History of Humanity

From 6 years | Duration: 70 minutes

STADTTHEATER WELS
Sunday June 16, 2024 | 7:30 p.m.

A time journey for all happiness seekers aged six and above.

Inspired by Yuval Noah Harari's "A Brief History of Humanity," performers and puppeteers Sabine Köhler and Heiki Ikkola, along with musician Frieder Zimmermann, initiate a theatrical discourse for children aged six and above. They playfully speed through the history of humanity with the astonished audience: stories, puppets, objects, music, light, and spectacle - a time-travel for all seekers of joy.

And in doing so, more questions pile up: Does money perhaps bring happiness? Or warmth, or speed? Travel to the ends of the earth, or does everything happen only in our minds?

Whatever is found here, we share it with everyone! After all, shared happiness is said to double.

  • About the Group:
  • Sabine Köhler and Heiki Ikkola have been working together since 2006 as a company, gathering theater makers, visual artists, and musicians in teams. Over extended periods, they experiment with and develop work and life strategies.

"The credo of our theatrical work is engaging with the foreign, the other, the unknown, the impossible. Our work knows no genre boundaries yet is not a hodgepodge. The expression of freaks and strangers always originates in puppetry; Sabine Köhler and Heiki Ikkola learned their craft at the Ernst Busch School of Acting in Berlin."

"In our works, we confront uncomfortable questions and problems for which we often have few answers and solutions. We seek lively societal dialogue, embracing diverse thought and art forms, even beyond the protective walls of theaters and performance spaces. Theater, for freaks and strangers, is not a 'pretend'—it is much more than mere 'truth.'

    "

The company "Freaks and Strangers" received the Art Prize of the State Capital Dresden in 2015 for their work.
